TEEN PULLED PAIR OFF MOTORBIKE CTS Teen pulled pair off motorbike A frustrated magistrate ordered a social inquiry report on an 18-year-old who pulled a rider and passenger from their motorcycle.
Jahai Butterfield, of Bay Lane, Sandys, pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting another teenager, and thereby causing him bodily harm.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Butterfield, who was standing beside his cycle on Cochrane Road, Somerset, began shouting insults at two boys riding by on a motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider then heard what sounded like a Yamaha coming from the rear.
"Butterfield grabbed his clothing and shook him until they both fell to the ground,'' Sgt. Dale said.
An argument then ensued and a fight broke out, which resulted in Butterfield punching the motorcyclist who received bruises, a swollen eye and scratches to the neck.
Butterfield said he told Police that he was hit first.
Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons noted that Butterfield had been in trouble before.
"What is your problem, why can't you behave?'' she asked him.
"I'm only here because he got all the bruises,'' Butterfield replied.
Ms Simmons told Butterfield he was heading down the wrong path. "They spend my tax dollars on people like you who can't behave yourself. You young people make me sick,'' she said.
After ordering the social inquiry report and granting Butterfield bail in the sum of $500 with a like surety, Ms Simmons said: "Keep your hands to yourself in the meantime. If someone picks a fight with you, run the other way. I would rather be called a coward then a criminal.'' She ordered Butterfield to return to court in September.
