When two heads are better than one

The fast-moving pace that rules in the technology sector - with new trends and platforms emerging at a breathtaking rate - has prompted two local companies to work together on Web site development projects.

Bespoke Software and emedia Bermuda Ltd. are both companies run by young Bermudians who realised they could be a stronger force working together than apart.

emedia managing director Jennifer Ward, 26 - who started the company with partner Colin Murdoch in 2000 - said their focus as a full-service design agency, and including Web site development, has been graphics and content development for client projects.

Ms Ward added that emedia - which has now grown to five staff - did not want to get into the “tech side” and it made sense for them to outsource technical aspects including database development on web projects to Bespoke Software.

She added: “Technology is changing so fast. And keeping up with industry trends and the latest communication arts is full-time.”

Bespoke was launched last year by Paul McLeod, 36, who formerly worked in information technology (IT) for both the insurance sector and as a consultant.

Mr. McLeod, who grew up with emedia partner Colin Murdoch, said he still does work in the insurance sector through his company Bespoke. In addition he works with emedia on client projects. He also works out of the emedia office several days a week. He added that emedia took charge of the client relationship, site design and layout while he dealt with the technical “back end” features of a site.

Mr. McLeod said working in e-commerce saw “different technologies competing for space". He added World Wide Web (www) should be an acronym for “wild, wild west”.
