It may be the Island?s biggest turn-on.

Bermuda has been crowned the television capital of the world by the World Economic Forum.

Forum figures show that we have the most TVs in the world per capita and that there are more televisions in Bermuda than people.

The manager of M&M International wasn?t about to disagree when contacted yesterday. When told that 108 percent of Bermuda?s population have television receivers, he said: ?I would venture to say that the average household has a minimum of three televisions,? Donnie Correia said.

?About 50 percent of our sales are televisions. They are a major portion.

?This is positive for business but probably negative for children,? he added.

In other figures, the Forum said that Bermuda is:

Ranked second in the world for having main telephone lines in operation.

Placed number ten for personal computer ownership, with 49 percent of us owning personal computers.

The most advanced country per capita for use of personal technology.

While at first glance Bermuda may appear to be chock full of cellphone-happy people, the Island actually failed to make the top ten list for cellular telephone subscribers.

Countries in Europe and Asia made up that list.

Bermuda, however, was number two for main telephone lines in operation with 86 for every 100 people. The top position was held by Monaco with 92 percent.

?Monaco and Bermuda have the highest penetration rates in the world of main telephone lines, while Taiwan and Luxembourg have the best penetration rates in terms of cellular phones,? according to the Forum. The Forum ranks Bermuda number one for Internet use, personal computers, main telephone lines, and television receivers within Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ministry of Telecommunications and E-Commerce consultant Nigel Hickson said: ?The statistics are really excellent, it shows that we are an advanced place. I have no dispute with the figures. And we will increase them for next year!?
