Chef admits sexually assaulting co-worker
A 33-year-old Paget man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to sexually assaulting a male co-worker, but claimed it was a joke that had been misconstrued.Executive chef Marc Vivian Bungaleea, of Bostock Hill East, admitted grabbing at the nipple of a dish washer, in the hotel kitchen where both were employed. He committed the offence on two separate occasions. His victim said the actions took place between October and January.Bungaleea told the victim “I want to f***k you” and “I want you to have sex with me”, as he grabbed at his nipple. The chef said it only became apparent to him that the joke was not shared when his co-worker approached him on January 9. He was arrested two days later.Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess said the first offence occurred in late October when the chef came up behind his victim and “caressed his left breast”.A verbal proposition followed two weeks later. On November 12 the accused told the defendant: “I want you to f***k me.”Ms Burgess said the dish washer made it clear on that occasion that he found the behaviour “offensive and disturbing”. Despite that he was groped in the chest a week later by Bungaleea, as he worked in the kitchen. The chef then gestured to the victim in a lewd manner while reclining in an office chair last December, the Crown counsel added.Bungaleea’s lawyer Charles Richardson said his client “accepts it was what they call a nipple pinch, on two occasions”.“But clearly, that’s something guys sometimes do to each other as a joke,” he added.Mr Bungaleea, who admitted making the lewd remarks as well, maintains they were never made while touching the complainant.Mr Richardson added his client, who is a guest worker, can produce references of good character and is considered a valuable employee.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report. He extended Bungaleea’s bail of $5,000 and told him to return to court for sentencing in September.
