Computer consultant Richard Barto was unaware he arrived in Bermuda with a cannabis pipe, it was claimed.

Said Mr. Tyrone Chin, defending: "It was an oversight. He did not know the pipe was there.'' The pipe was found on Barto, of Jersey City, New Jersey, when he flew in to Bermuda's Airport.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, said the ceramic pipe was wrapped in foil and fitted for cannabis.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Barto $100 after he admitted possessing the pipe.

MAN JAILED FOR STEALING FROM SISTER CTS Stealing money from his sister while under the influence of alcohol led to the six-month imprisonment of Richard Dill.

Dill pleaded guilty in Magistrate's Court this week to breaking and entering and theft at his mother's Middle Road Sandys home.

Prosecuting Sgt. Earl Kirby said that on Friday, August 20, at 1.40 a.m. Dill broke into his mother's house by a closed but unlocked door.

"Dill entered his sister's bedroom while she was asleep in her bed. She was awaken by Dill who had gone into her handbag and taken $360 out of a white TCD envelope,'' Sgt. Kirby said.

"When she asked Dill what he was doing, he ran out of the house.'' Sgt. Kirby said Dill was later arrested, and told Police he spent $260.75 on cocaine.

He gave the remainder of the money to the officers.

Sgt. Kirby added that Dill had previous convictions of stealing money. Duty Council Mr. Tyrone Chin told the court that Dill stole the money while he was under the influence of alcohol adding he had a cocaine habit.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge said: "These incidents are normally because of alcohol or drugs, however, everyone has a civil right to be able to leave their property and find it when they return.'' Mr. Judge sentenced Dill to six months in prison.

SOUTHAMPTON MAN RESISED ARREST CTS Resisting arrest after a dispute with his girlfriend cost a Southampton man $200 in Magistrates' Court this week.

Terry L. Robinson, 36 of Horseshoe Road pleaded guilty to resisting arrest by Police officers.

Prosecuting, Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that on Sunday, August 22, Police were called to a Southampton residence where Robinson's girlfriend invited them into an apartment.

"Police noticed that both Robinson and his girlfriend had been drinking alcohol,'' Sgt. Kirby said.

"Robinson was threatening his girlfriend and packing some clothes. Officers warned him about his behaviour and he continued to tell his girlfriend that he was going to kill her.

"He then attempted to strike his girlfriend but was restrained by the Police.'' Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Robinson $200.
