Economy Minister Kim Wilson said it was “regrettable” that 21 HWP employees had been made redundant following the recent fire at the company.However, the Minister said the Government is committed to supporting those who have been affected by the disaster.“I can confirm that on Friday I met with HWP general manager Jonathan Brewin and HWP chairman Don McKenzie and assured them that we stand ready and prepared to assist.“Additionally, the acting director of Labour and Training met with HWP human resources personnel and a coordinated effort is underway to ensure that all employed affected by the redundancies register with the Department of Labour and Training.”Last week Mr Brewin announced that the company would have to give notice to several employees.“The shareholders and management team have spent the last two weeks exhaustively looking at options to avoid reducing our staff numbers, however the fire has placed matters beyond our control,” Mr Brewin said.
