Tourists defeat under-15s
whirlwind pre-season tour over the weekend with a 5-3 victory over Bermuda's national under-15 squad.
On Saturday, after hosts Saltus opened the proceedings with a 2-0 win against the New England side, the visitors enjoyed a goal feast with the under-15s.
Matt Osbourne put the visitors ahead early on before Damon Swan tied things up. Taurean Manders gave young Bermuda a short-lived lead before Greg Spaulding equalised. James Goodwin then put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot, and it was left to Shannon de Shields to show he could do the same for the under-15s five minutes later.
Play swung from end to end but it was Greg Spaulding who put the visitors in the lead in the closing minutes before Bobby Dufour put the match beyond doubt just before the final whistle.
In the earlier match, Henry Talbot had fired the local school ahead with a 30-yard shot and Justin Rebello added to the tally with an acute angled drive.
The tour group were led by Bermudian Derek Dane. Head coach of the team was Carlton Simmons, who attended Essex College where he played in the same team as Bermudians Janeiro Tucker and Tafari Outerbridge.
Hampshire were made up of 23 players between the ages of 15 and 16. They arrived last Thursday and were beaten in their opening game against North Village's under-15 side 1-0, Cornell Castle Jnr. scoring the decider.
Friday saw the visiting squad split into two teams. Their first game was against Warwick Academy who won a close encounter 1-0 with a goal from Helda Corerrio. The nightcap saw Bermuda's under-15 squad score a 3-1 win. Scoring for Bermuda were Damon Swan, Lynn Tucker and Bryan Phipps, while Bobby Dufour replied.
