An assault landed a pizzeria employee in hospital after he was beaten with a wooden plank on Saturday night.Police attended the assault at 10.35 p.m. According to their report, a 24-year-old male employee of Four Star Pizza in Pembroke was approached by two men as he was sitting on his motorcycle during a break. The two men then began to beat the employee about his body with a piece of wood. Shouting for help, the victim managed to get away from his assailants by rushing back into the restaurant.

The two men then began to beat the employee about his body with a piece of wood. Shouting for help, the victim managed to get away from his assailants by rushing back into the restaurant.

Meanwhile the two assailants managed to escape on foot. The victim was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Town residents not feeling flush

St. George's residents are without flushing water while the Corporation carries out an upgrade.

St. George's town manager said it was part of a general improvement which included recent investments in the sewage system but the job had been brought forward after a pump burned out on New Year's Eve.

Two pumps are being put in at an overall cost of about $7,000.

Mr. Furbert said about three quarters of homes in the old town had brackish water for flushing. Work is expected to take two weeks and the system may be turned on during peak usage times.

Job hopefuls hit by computer glitch

A computer blooper has forced Daniel's Head fun resort 9 Beaches to ask job hopefuls who e-mailed applications to send them again.

The former eco-resort will open as an activity centre in the spring and is advertising for a variety of staff.

But an irreversible computer problem means applications sent before December 26 have been lost. The closing date for applications has been extended to January 12.

Thief gets a thirst for breaking in

A thirsty prowler broke into a Devonshire home, leaving with three bottles of alcohol.

Sometime between 7.45 am and 1.45 p.m. on Thursday the unknown culprit gained entry into the Rec View Hill residence and stole a bottle of vodka, a bottle of Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky and a bottle of Gosling's Black Seal Rum.

Police attended the residence at 3.25 p.m. and currently carrying out inquiries into the crime.
