A supermarket manager chased a suspected shoplifter down the street and into a nearby restaurant in a bid to bring him to justice.

Despite the efforts of the manager of the A1 supermarket in South Road, Smiths, the suspect made off but was collared by the Police just minutes later.

The store manager has told officers that a man entered the supermarket at 10.20 a.m. on Wednesday and then left without paying for three bottles of vodka.

The manager to follow him into a nearby restaurant and confronted him. The suspect ran off, again with the manager in hot pursuit, but managed to elude him.

The Police picked up the 34-year-old suspect, of no fixed abode, on South Road, Smiths, at 10.25 a.m.
