Stout stops leading lady

And Jane Parker, who had been placed in the men's draw for the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association club championship, found the competition a little too tough as she was eliminated in straight sets by John Stout in second-round play at the Devonshire courts.

Stout pulled out a 9-6, 9-6, 9-5 win and will meet junior international Nick Kyme in the semi-finals tonight at 7.20 p.m. Kyme defeated Norman Furtado 9-1, 9-1, 9-3 in his Men's A match.

Parker, who won her first-round match over the 1996 men's champion Murray Brewer, was included in the men's draw because she is the BSRA professional.

On the other side of the Men's A chart, Jan Brewer won a five-set marathon over Colin Alexander (9-4, 6-9, 9-5, 6-9, 9-7) and will meet his brother Richard in the semi-finals tonight (6.40 p.m.).

Richard Brewer volleyed his way to a 9-6, 9-6, 9-2 win over Simon Boddy.

In the ladies Division B round-robin, Jill Curran, Dianne Longden and Ann Mitchell earned victories. Curran won 9-4, 9-5, 9-0 over Lisa Lea Ray and heads the table with three wins.

Longden faced match ball at 8-2 but clawed back for a 9-4, 2-9, 2-9, 9-7, 10-8 triumph over Siobhan Rose while Mitchell got by Melissa Harney 9-6, 9-3, 3-9, 7-9, 9-4.

In the men's B division, Marco Bortoli earned a 10-8, 3-9, 9-4, 9-7 win over Tony Haworth.
