Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan noted that Ms Lewin was a graduate of Bermuda College who went on to MIT and was very much involved in international business.

The "very dedicated sailor'' had excelled in one of the world's most competitive sports.

Sir John also congratulated Bermuda's Under 23 soccer team for its performance in Argentina after the team's recent "turmoil.'' While the team had not won, it had "held Bermuda up high.'' Finally, Sir John congratulated cyclist Mr. Elliot Hubbard for his efforts representing Bermuda, both in Argentina and in Europe.

Health and Social Service Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness later added kudos to Ms Jennifer Fisher and Mr. Terrance Armstrong for their performances in the 1,500-metre race in Argentina.

Mrs. Grace Bell (UBP) asked the House to send condolences to the family of Mr.

Cuthbert (Cupsy) Packwood of St. George's.

She noted Mr. Packwood had served the old St. George's Hotel for 50 years as chief engineer, until his retirement. He was also a cricketer for the St.

George's team who put up the deed to his house when the St. George's Cricket Club was getting established.

The Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of Mr. Hugh Clarendon Ensor Masters, who died on Sunday.

She noted that Mr. Masters began as a schoolteacher and excelled as a tennis player, yachtsman, and entrepreneur.

Mrs. Cartwright DeCouto also congratulated Speaker the Hon. Ernest DeCouto on his birthday on Sunday.

Mr. Reginald Burrows (PLP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of Mr.

Ralph (Nine Eggs) Wade, a former Marine and Ports employee who also served in the Bermuda Regiment.

The Masterworks Foundation received congratulations from Ms Jennifer Smith (PLP) for its recent Jazzi-ology family affair at Number 1 Shed.

Rev. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) asked that congratulations be sent to Mrs. Carolyn Todd of the House of Assembly, who was among 15 Government employees receiving merit awards on Friday. Mrs. Todd had served Government for 23 years, 18 of them in the House of Assembly.

Mr. Ottiwell Simmons (PLP) asked that congratulations be sent to the family of the late Dr. E.F. Gordon, who would have turned 100 years old yesterday.

Mr. Simmons said free elementary education was included in the progress Bermuda had made which was directly a result of his work. Now, "his daughter carries on his great work,'' he said.

Mr. Simmons asked that the note of congratulations be sent to the Mazumbo committee headed by Mr. Dale Butler.

Finally, Prospect Primary School received plaudits from Government Whip Mr.

John Barritt . Noting the school's recent trashathon, its 35th anniversary, and an article about its regular assemblies in Saturday's The Royal Gazette , Mr. Barritt said it was "a very powerful primary school of which all of Bermuda can be proud.'' Mr. Brian Wellman won high praise in the House of Assembly on Friday for his gold medal performance in the triple jump at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan also congratulated Mr. Troy Douglas for his silver medal in the 200 metres.

Shadow Youth and Sport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown congratulated the Bermuda Track and Field Association and the national coach.

Dr. Brown also congratulated Mr. Walter Roban, a former chairman of the party's youth wing, who recently earned a Master of Arts in international affairs from the University of Birmingham.

Ms Renee Webb (PLP) congratulated Mr. Sinclair Robinson of Stonington Beach Hotel, who was recently recognised as an industry leader by the Department of Tourism.

Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge asked that the House send condolences to the family of the late Mrs. Josephine Dodge Wilkinson.

Mr. Woolridge also expressed sorrow at the death of Mr. Wendell George Talbot, who lived at Summer Haven for the last few years.

Health and Social Services Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness congratulated Bermuda's newest Rhodes Scholar, Miss Katherine Hubbard, who would be going on to study medicine at Oxford.

And Mr. Edness sent condolences to the family of Mr. Elsworth Eugene (Juicy Boy) Ingham, a taxi driver who was "an outstanding ambassador'' for Bermuda.

Community and Culture Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert congratulated the Bermuda National Gallery on its third anniversary.

He also congratulated Mr. Jeremy Cox, the son of Mr. Eugene Cox MP, "who has followed in my profession,'' having recently completed his CPA.

Ms Jennifer Smith (PLP) congratulated Bacardi International on its 133rd anniversary and 30 years in Bermuda. She noted that Bacardi had done much for the arts in Bermuda by offering its premises when the Island did not have a gallery.

Ms Smith also praised Ms Leleath Bailey and the seven other women who were recently honoured by the Bermuda Public Service Association.

Management and Technology Minister the Hon. Grant Gibbons thanked the Paget Lions Club for recently completing construction of a new bus shelter on Middle Road.

Dr. Gibbons congratulated Bermuda International Business Association executive director Ms Wendy Davis-Johnson on a "very successful'' briefing to businesses in London last week.

Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams (PLP) sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Enid Lorraine Seaman who died recently. And he sent congratulations to Rev. William Lowe, Sr., of Richard Allen AME Church, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday.

Mr. David Dodwell (UBP) congratulated members of the Hotel Sales and Management Association International for its work throughout the year to promote tourism in Bermuda.

The Hon. Harry Soares (UBP) asked that condolences be sent to Mrs. Agnes McCudden on the recent passing of her husband James -- "a true gentleman''.
