The PLP constituency committee for Warwick North Central has organised a car care workshop for women, with mechanics on hand to teach them how to change a tyre and other motoring practicalities.

It is part of the executive committee's 12-month series of workshops aimed at getting people more involved in their local community. But women of all political persuasions and parishes will be welcome on the Sunday.

PLP Parliamentary candidate El James said: "Anyone can come. We'll have mechanics there to show them what to do and then we'll have the women in again at regular intervals over the next 12 months.

"This is the first of our 12-month clinics and we hope it will go off well. It is designed especially for women, to help them know where the spare tyre and jack are."

He said: "It's important for anyone to feel good about being able to be independent. Recently I saw a woman on the side of the road. She was late for work and, while most men can change a tyre and be gone, very few women can. So we hope this will help to empower women and also keep them safe if they break down late at night."

The car care workshop takes place at the top parking lot of Warwick Bowling Alley between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.
