Devonne Simmons, 21, of Curving Court, Pembroke this week admitted to trying to pervert the course of justice.

Crown counsel Charmaine Smith told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that Police on foot patrol shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday stopped Simmons on Court Street in relation to another matter.

When asked his name, Simmons, a construction worker, gave Police two false names.

Police later learned of Simmons' true identity while he was in their custody.

When Mr. Francis asked Simmons if he understood the charges, Simmons said: ".. that night I was under the influence.'' "You don't remember the last time I was here and I had seven warrants and it wasn't me?,'' he asked Mr. Francis.

Mr. Francis said he did remember him, and added: "So you are getting back at the public. Is that what you are saying?'' "How would you like for somebody to be using your name right now, as we speak?'' Mr. Francis added.

Mr. Francis fined Simmons $400 for giving the false names and $200 for speeding on Woodlands Road in Sandys Parish on October 23.

Simmons will also have to pay $150 for not having a valid driver's licence on that date.

Devon Burgess, of Curving Avenue, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the offence which took place on February 1.

Crown counsel Charmaine Smith explained that around 2.15 p.m. Burgess was riding an auxiliary cycle west on Crow Lane when Police on duty noticed one of his rear brake lights was not working.

When the officers attempted to pull Burgess over, they saw him throw a yellow pay-type envelope onto the road.

The officers recovered the envelope, which contained plant material, and arrested Burgess on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug.
