Coffee house planned for Par-la-Ville Road

Bermuda Aviation Services has moved to open a second retail outlet in Hamilton, it emerged yesterday.

The airline caterer, which also owns Crow Lane Bakery, has filed an application with the Planning Department seeking permission to internally convert part of Stockton House at 55 Par-la-Ville Road into a take-out coffee shop.

Company CEO Eugene Bean yesterday told The Royal Gazette that the new facility would follow in the lines of the Crow Lane Express store which the company opened in Washington Mall on Church Street last July.

He said the company believed it would fill a need in an area of the city which has seen a lot of office block construction recently and is set to see more in the near future but offered little in the way of quick, take-out service.

Meanwhile, the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo has moved to take advantage of its water-side location on Harrington Sound.

The popular attraction for visitors and locals has applied for permission to construct an observation patio at its Flatts Village location.

Head curator Richard Winchell said the patio would allow visitors to the facility to take advantage of the property's location and its pleasant views of Harrington Sound which, up until now, had not been fully utilised.

The patio is set to be built at the western end of the property, adjacent to where the flamingos are kept, and will be constructed to look natural.

Sightseers will also be able to read information about the Sound and its wildlife.

Elsewhere in planning news, the Corporation of Hamilton has applied for permission to put a new transformer vault at Number Seven Front Street.

Corporation secretary Roger Sherratt revealed that the new vault was needed to provide more power for the area which will become the home of the city's new sewage plant.

And a Devonshire animal supplies store, Noah's Ark Feed & Supply, has applied for permission to increase the retail and office area within the existing warehouse space at the Marsh Lane site.
