Five top ten finishes for promising young riders
Bermuda's up and coming motor racing riders impressed at the weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in the US bringing home ten top five finishes.
Andrew Decosta and Khyren Wilson, along with Team Tuned riders Bruce Degrilla Jr and Cody Sousa-Saints, made the trek to the East Coast to represent Bermuda in the USGPRU/CCS race event.
The riders competed in six race events over the two days, with DeCosta winning the 125 GP race, while Sousa-Saints came fourth, DeGrilla fifth and Wilson seventh.
DeCosta also came fourth in the GTL class, while DeGrilla came sixth, Sousa-Saints seventh, and Wilson 11th.
On the second day of competition, the riders were given another obstacle to overcome, the weather, as the bikes were mounted with rain tyres and given one practice session prior to the start of the races.
Unfortunately for DeCosta, DeGrilla and Sousa-Saints, they all experienced crashes in the rain, with DeCosta's forcing him to miss out on the first race of the day while his bike was being repaired.
In the Lightweight GP, Wilson and DeGrilla finished next to each other, fourth and fifth respectively. Sousa-Saints received a DNF, while DeCosta did not make the start.
In the third moto race of the day, DeCosta came third, DeGrilla sixth, Sousa-Saints seventh and Wilson eighth.
Then in the MD 250 H class, DeCosta came third, Sousa-Saints fifth and Wilson placed seventh. DeGrilla didn't finish the race.
Team Tuned manager Cyril Whitter III said: "Bruce, Cody, Andrew and Khyren steadily progressed over the race weekend improving on their adaptation to the Moriwaki 250H as well as the New Jersey Motorsports Park Circuit.
"The group had a total of 10 top five finishes including three podiums and a race win."
