Cleveland bolstered by new signings
Cleveland County appear to have benefited most during cricket's off-season transfers while St. George's Cricket Club may have been the worst hit.
Eastern Counties club Cleveland have had their ranks reinforced with the acquisition of St. George's early order batsman Mishael Paynter while former players Andre Hendrickson, spinner Del Hollis and hard-hitting opening bat Curtis Jackson have all decided to return home after serving lengthy spells at St. David's, Willow Cuts and Somerset respectively.
In addition to losing Paynter, St. George's have parted company with veteran spinner David (Chick) Adams and wicketkeeper Jason Anderson. Both players sat out last season - Anderson through a suspension handed down by Bermuda Cricket Board for bringing the game into disrepute.
The talented pair are now expected to play leading roles at neighbouring Bailey's Bay as the reigning Eastern Counties champions seek an immediate return to the Premier Division after being relegated last season.
Veteran St.George's Cup Match seamer Gary Brangman has also decided to move to Flatts where he is said to have taken on a player/coaching role.
It wasn't, however, all one-way traffic for St. George's as they have managed to obtain the services of Western Stars medium pacer Wilbur Burt.
Southampton Rangers, meanwhile, also suffered the loss of two of their key players. Promising middle-order batsman and specialist fielder Ian Armstrong has joined Stars while seasoned spinner David Saltus has gone west to join Willow Cuts.
Contrary to rumours, only ten players in total opted for transfers during the off-season. The transfer deadline expired on March 31.
