Devonshire Colts and Devonshire Cougars settled for a share of the spoils in a goalless affair at Police Field yesterday.

It was a tale of two halves, with the visiting Cougars having the better of the chances in the opening stanza before the home side took control in the latter stages of the match.

Cougars were a threat from the outset with their wingers causing problems on both sides of the pitch. Christian Albouy was the first to get in behind the defence, but could not beat goalkeeper Keitaro Darrell with his angled shot from 12 yards. The danger was not fully cleared before Domico Coddington found himself in a similar situation but couldn’t get enough on his shot to trouble Darrell.

Cougars were then forced into an early substitute as Macai Battersbee came on to replace Drewonde Bascome, who suffered an injury that required further treatment.

The unplanned switch did nothing to disrupt Cougars, as they continued to create chances. Coddington had an effort from the edge of the box that flashed just wide of the far post and Albouy should have done better with the ball at his feet inside the box but pulled his shot wide as well.

Battersbee would come the closest just before the half as he caught the Colts defence napping to take advantage of a quick throw, but was unfortunate to see his effort from a tight angle come off the crossbar.

Colts were a different team after the half and started to move the ball forward with purpose. On the hour mark, Razir Smith-Jones forced Ajai Daniels into action for the first time to save his shot from just inside the box.

Jarzadae Samuels would then have a chance as he received a square ball from Henry but connected poorly with his first-time effort.

Colts’ best chance came in the 70th minute when Henry, who was now at the centre of every Colts attack, unleashed a shot from the right side that crashed off the underside of the bar and right to Laquan Thomas. The midfielder’s casual attempt to score the rebound in what would have been an empty net, allowed the goalkeeper to make an easy save.

The hosts continued to apply pressure but would have to settle for a point as they continue to look for their first win of the campaign.
