A biker wedding: Edwin and Erica Agosto, from Reading Pennsylvania, who are members of the Latin American Motor Cycle Association, share a kiss on St George Square after being married in the Town Hall. They were joined by other members of their bike club and other bikers from the United States who came to the Island on board the Explorer of the Seas. The event was organised by the Bermuda Long Riders.

It was four years ago when motorcycle fanatic Edwin Agosto first rode his Harley Davidson into lady love Erica’s life. The happy couple took time out from their two-day motorcycle tour of the Island with the Latin American Motorcycle Association to exchange vows at the St George’s Town Hall. The wedding was far from traditional — friends rode up to the church on heavy bikes and had to change out of their leather riding vests before the ceremony. The bride’s wedding dress, flower bouquet and hair accessories were also kept in a saddle bag on the motorcycle. But the couple, from Reading, Pennsylvania, had lots of support from LAMA members, the Bermuda Long Riders and the local community.Mr Agosto said: “It was a special event for both of us. It was beyond what we expected, the people of Bermuda really came out and even those who didn’t know us came.“The Bermuda Long Riders went out of their way and did a lot for us. It was the engagement, vacation, marriage and honeymoon all wrapped up in one.”Between 70 and 80 members of the international club disembarked the Explorer of the Seas cruise ship on Monday morning to enjoy the wedding and take in the Island’s sights.Marc Rodriguez, president of LAMA’s Newark chapter, said the club’s riders were not the typical motorcycle gangs depicted on television shows of the past.He said its 120 chapters were committed to raising money for charities like Autism Speaks and St Jude’s Children’s Hospital and described it as a “family organisation”.He even said LAMA men were even known to get emotional from time to time.“I was the best man at the wedding and I was standing there [as they exchanged vows] and getting starry-eyed.“I looked at Angela, who was the maid of honour, and she was already crying, so it moved me a little further. The guys were just staring at me, but it’s an emotional and happy time when two lives come together.”LAMA is open to anyone who loves riding and owns a bike over 600 CCs.www.lamanewark.com.
