Launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month proclamation on the steps of City Hall at 12 noon. All are welcome.

Breast Cancer Health seminar at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Nancy Roberge. Owner and director of the Chestnut Hill Physical Therapy Associates, talking about 'Quality of Life for Cancer Survivors'. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local vendors and information tables and refreshments.

The Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival 2009 from October 19 to 21. Runs for three nights starting at 7.30 p.m. Tickets on sale at the participating schools offices. At Saltus Grammar School 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'and 'The Taming of the Shrew' at Bermuda High School.

EXHIBITIONS

Ace Gallery: Calix Smith – Que Vive El Concepto (Long Live the Concept) Until September 30. Calix Smith is currently pursuing an associate degree in art and design at the Bermuda College. The show consists of 12 drawings and paintings, many in black and white charcoal with splashes of colour. Most of his work offers a social commentary on local and international issues including the plight of young black males. Ace Building, 17 Woodbourne Avenue, Hamilton. The Gallery is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Groups should call 295-5200 for an appointment.

Bermuda National Gallery Bermuda National Gallery The Bermuda National Gallery's Fall show '4 Centuries: Evolving Art opens'. The exhibition runs until December 23. Bermuda Maritime Museum, Dockyard: (1) Commissioner's House: The Exploring Voyage of HMS Challenger in Bermuda 1873. A selection of original and reproduction photographs depicting Bermuda, which were used as evidence in the scientific reports of the Challenger voyage, 1872-76. (2) From the Fay and Geoffrey Elliott Collection: 'U-505 Captured', an exhibit telling the remarkable story of the capture off western Africa and the hiding in Bermuda of the submarine U-505. (3) Steinhoff Magazine, High Cave: 'Prisoners in Paradise': Artefacts in Bermuda cedar/stone/other materials created by Dockyard convict establishment, and prisoners of the Boer and World Wars. Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute Titanic exhibit until November 30. A unique collection of Titanic artefacts, photographs and memorabilia, throughout the exhibits. This exhibit will not be seen anywhere else in the world as these collections have been compiled by BUEI from various sources to give visitors a wide overview of how the greatest marine tragedy captivated the public. The collections vary from artefacts used on the film 'Titanic', scientific research done by renowned scientists and photographs of the ship by National Geographic photographer, Emory Kristof.
