Western objects to ADT Ltd. deal

ADT Ltd., a UK security and car auction group, faces opposition from Western Resources Inc., a leading ADT shareholder, a British newspaper said.

The Times reported that Western Resources, a US utility company which holds 24 percent of ADT, has said it objects to the agreement and intends blocking it.

In a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, the company said that the all-share nature of the transaction made it unacceptable.

Last month Republic denied its acquisition of ADT was in danger of falling apart but a change in price was being discussed.

Bermuda resident Michael DeGroote holds a significant stake in Republic.
