Fight `lightweights' meet their match
Courage might have been the catchword as several fighters found themselves out-matched and out-muscled by heavier opponents during Saturday night's `Boxing Mania' at the CedarBridge Academy gym.
With organisers struggling to find fighters in the same weight division, the card included a number of bouts in which the boxer in one corner was considerably heavier than his rival in the other.
As a result four of the eight bouts didn't go the distance, although in most cases the `lightweights' provided admirable resistance.
In the feature fight of the night, Trace Easton weighed in at 187-lbs - more than 30-lbs heavier than opponent Jerome Caines - and the difference showed as Caines was counted out in the first round.
Bruno Parker suffered the same fate in his bout against Andre Bean, although he lasted until the second round before hitting the deck, having given away almost 20-lbs in weight.
Shareiff Wales stopped his fellow heavyweight Devrae Simmons in the third round while John Glasgow scored a first round TKO over Robin Simmons.
All the other fights were won by unanimous points decisions, Jeoro Brown defeating Kagi Smith, Ian Scotton beating Calvin Vincent, Kenneth Caines outboxing Gavaska Lodge and a much heavier Jeffrey Richardson getting the edge over first-time fighter David Hunt.
