Hunt lifts title as young guns impress
Bermuda?s rising golf stars dominated proceedings at this year?s Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Port Royal which concluded on Monday.
With one full day lost due to the inclement weather over the past weekend, youngsters Fraser Hunt, Jarryd Dillas and Eric West claimed the top three spots in the men?s event, with Hunt finishing five shots clear of the pack with a three-round score of 225.
Defending champion Dillas, who has spent the last academic year on a golf scholarship at Columbus State University in Georgia, carded a second round 79 which dropped him off the pace while Eric West tied Dillas? final combined score of 230.
Nick Mansell, the Port Royal superintendent, finished in third place outright on 231.
In the women?s competition, former pro Kimberely Botelho made light of her limited time on the golf course recently to card a score of 160 over two rounds, while college golfer Laura Robinson finished three shots back on 163.
Ebonie Burgess, who currently attends the David Leadbetter School of Golf in Florida, finished in third place on 170.
Mike Branco, Bermuda Golf Association secretary, was thrilled with the impressive showing of Bermuda?s new generation of golfing talent.
?We are to say the least ecstatic,? he commented yesterday.
?We have a really good crop of youngsters coming through in both the men?s and the women?s games ? many with professional aspirations ? and we are absolutely delighted that they are doing justice to their obvious talent.?
