Struggling Sims turns to top coach Harmon
Still struggling to find his best form, Bermuda's Michael Sims is turning to a man with a famous golfing lineage to help him.
Billy Harmon - one of four brothers who are teaching professionals in the sport - will try to analyse the kinks in the rookie pro's game this week in California, USA.
Sims who failed to qualify for a Buy.Com tournament on Monday (he shot one-over 73) is using the time between that and his next qualifier in the same state to his advantage.
“He (Billy) is going to have a look at Michael's game and see where he can help him,” said Sims' father, Bruce, yesterday.
Billy Harmon is the youngest son of the late 1948 Masters champion, Claude Harmon, the first Georgia native to win that title.
His oldest brother, Butch, is Tiger Woods' swing coach and his two other brothers, Craig and Dick, are club pros.
Billy who has caddied for and coached PGA Tour golfers is scheduled to meet with Sims in Los Angeles.
In addition to seeking Harmon's counsel, Sims is headed to the Titleist Test Centre to have a new customised putter made by golf's premier putter maker, Scotty Cameron.
Sims, 23, tied for 13th and earned $821 in last week's New England Open at The International's par-72 Oaks course in Massachusetts before flying west. A disappointing third and final round of four-over 76 scuppered any chance the Bermudian fancied of being among that tournament's top finishers.
He had shot two-under 70 and even-par 72 in the first two rounds to end at two-over 218. Todd Vernon won the event with eight-under 208.
Sims' next Buy.Com qualifier is the Monterey Peninsula Classic in San Francisco on Monday.
