Smith leads the Goodwill
Defending professional champion Keir Smith has launched another spirited assault on the Goodwill title this week, posting 42 stableford points after two rounds to top the leaderboard.
The 54th edition of the popular annual tournament ? played over five-straight rounds on courses Island-wide ? has attracted entries from an impressive 116 teams this year ? the highest number since 1984 when 120 teams travelled to the Island for one of the most important events on the golfing calendar.
Despite yesterday?s windy conditions, some of the numbers posted by individuals and teams alike were surprisingly low, with pro Smith now one point up on Sam Olson of Redding CC.
2002 Goodwill pro champ Michael Sherman is in third with 40 points.
In the all-important net division of the team event, meanwhile, Rosedale Golf Club moved into the lead with a 59 at Port Royal. Rosedale, who are led by Professional Michael Sherman and playing partners Jim Reid, Lonnie Brown and John Barford have a two-day total of 25-under-par.
In second place is the A team from Silvermine Golf Club out of Connecticut, with professional John Bushka and partners Jim Evans, Peter Daigle and Larry Anastasia at 24-under par.
