An American tourist saw her name cleared this afternoon after being acquitted of possessing bullets that were found in her luggage at the airport.

Lucy Stackler, 67, now plans to fly back home to Oyster Bay, New York tomorrow.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave his verdict at the end of a three day trial.

Mrs. Stackler said the 11 bullets were in her carry-on case by accident after she put them there months before to hide them from her handyman.

The discovery was made as she was flying back out of Bermuda after she and husband Walter Stackler, 73, had enjoyed a golfing vacation at the Mid Ocean Club.

Her lawyer, Saul Froomkin, had argued during the trial that cases of people taking ammunition out of Bermuda are not worth the time and money it takes to prosecute them.
