And 12 professionals will join what has become a twice-annual golfing trip to the Portuguese islands for many locals.

The Verdegolf course in Sao Miguel will host the tournament from March 10-17.

The Bermudian professionals attending are Dwayne Pearman and Keith Smith (Ocean View), Kevin Benevides (Castle Harbour), Keith Pearman (Mid Ocean), J.J. Madeiros, Cornell Bean and Leo Custodio (Belmont), Darriek Douglas and Andrew Peniston (Riddells Bay), Eardley Jones (Bermuda Golf Academy), David James and Danny Johnson.

The trip has been organised by Joseph Repose, who said there were plans for 12 golfers to make an exchange trip from the Azores to Bermuda in July.

Some 50 novices took part in a tournament organised by the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association at Horizons.

First in the captain's choice formation, with a one-under-par score of 17 from six holes, were Jonathan James, Catherine Jones, Jason Darrell and Che Gilbert, one shot ahead of the team of Corby Fox, Oscar Deuss, Clayton Harshaw and Robert Neesome.
