Premier Brown takes tips off champion Cink
Bermuda Premier Ewart Brown has received golfing tips from British Open Champion Stewart Cink who he played alongside at the PGA Deatsche Bank Pro-Am in Norton, Massachusettes.
American Clink will join Masters Champion Angel Cabrera (the 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf Champion), US Open Champion Lucas Glover, and newly crowned PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang at the Grand Slam of Golf at the newly reconstructed Port Royal Golf Course next month.
The Premier said: "Playing with Stewart Cink was an honour.
"He is a kind gentleman who says he cannot wait to come to Bermuda. He was very approachable and offered tips to the amateurs as we went through the round."
During his round on Thursday the Premier, who is also Minister of Tourism and Transport, wore a Port Royal-branded shirt and hat from the Port Royal Golf Course Pro Shop.
The Department of Tourism is currently promoting Golf and Spa Season which is generally recognized as November to March.
However, the PGA Grand Slam is seen as the unofficial start of Golf and Spa Season in Bermuda.
Bermuda Tourism has a significant marketing presence at the PGA Deutsche Bank Championship.
It co-sponsored a hole-in-one contest with Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa and throughout Labour Day Weekend tourism officials will promote Golf and Spa Season and capture data from golf fans who may become Bermuda visitors.
On Monday, the final day of the Championship, Bermuda Tourism will host a hospitality area near the 16th green for Bermuda Tourism industry partners. The Deutsche Bank Championship marketing effort is part of the same agreement that brought together Bermuda and the Boston Red Sox.
Chris "Boomer" Berman of ESPN was also part of the Premier's pro-am group yesterday. "He kept us laughing all day and generously gave me a 'Royal Mulligan' when one of my tee shots went out of bounds," the Premier said.
Premier Brown and Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney met with Senior British Amateur Champion Dr. Robert Vallis today to congratulate him on his historic win at Prestwick.
Veteran Vallis clinched the biggest victory of his career – and perhaps the biggest ever by any local player – when he won the 41st Senior British Amateur Championships at the historic Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland last month.
The Bermudian golfer is now preparing for the US Seniors Amateur Championship in Chicago.
The Premier and Minister Blakeney presented Dr. Vallis with a small gift to commemorate his accomplishment.
