ANN Smith Gordon is to hold her 19th slide show benefiting cancer care in Bermuda.

An annual fund-raising event for PALS, Wednesday's screening will follow her travels through Scotland.

Yesterday, Ms Smith Gordon encouraged the public to attend the presentation,

"I do hope the public will join us as we explore by car and ferry this ancient, proud, yet wee nation that has extended its influence around the world," she said, adding that the audio-visual presentation would explore Scotland, from the Borders to the Shetland Islands.

"Beginning in Glasgow, we will visit legendary Loch Lomond and follow in the footsteps of St. Columba to visit the spiritual island of Iona. We later sail on the only sea-going paddle steamer in the world to the tiny island of Staffa, made famous by Mendelssohn's ."

The presentation continues with views captured while driving ? from a house party on the Hebridean island of Mull to the very tip of the Scottish mainland and beyond.

"All along the way are beautiful sights: romantic castles, glorious cathedrals, sparkling lochs, classic white stone houses, kilts and bagpipes and ancient monuments that prove man's presence in this land dating back over 5,000 years. "We will explore the mystical and beautiful island of Skye, as well as Harris; and Lewis with its mysterious Standing Stones of Callanish, some 15 feet high rivalled only in splendour by famed Stonehenge in southern England. "At the top of Scotland, we will make an eventful visit to remote Cape Wrath with its spectacular scenery and unrelenting wind, and on to the charming Castle of Mey, saved from destruction by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, following the death of her beloved King George VI."

She said other highlights include the remote Orkney and Shetland Islands where "thousands of years of fascinating history and archaeological sites lay abandoned, buried and hidden for some 4,500 years".

As well, the presentation includes glimpses of Edinburgh, the East Neuk Villages, St. Andrews, Scotland's Secret Bunker and the village of Glamis with "its beautiful castle, Balmoral and picturesque Falkland, one of the loveliest villages in Scotland".
