Crown counsel Lesley Basden said Moniz was swearing at officers who were attempting to arrest one of his friends at at City Esso Station at 3 a.m.

They found Moniz swearing at other officers And when the officers attempted to impound a bike, Moniz took the keys and said: "That's my girl's f**king bike, you're not taking it anywhere.'' Moniz admitted in court that his behaviour was inappropriate, but said he felt that the officers were also out of line.

"They pulled out their sticks for nothing and started hitting at me,'' he said.

David Leonard Cox, 33, of Glebe Road, Pembroke yesterday pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the August 2 theft.

Crown counsel Lesley Basden said tourists had parked their cycle on Front Street and were eating lunch on the balcony at Pickled Onion restaurant.

They saw Cox retrieve a bottle from the garbage can, break the bottle and fail to cut the helmet off the cycle.

Cox then found a knife and sliced the helmet's ear-strap. He was later arrested and charged with the offence.

Cox claimed he took the helmet so his friend could take him home to get some fishing line.

"I was on Front Street fishing, and I saw a school of mackerel.. .I needed the helmet to get home, but I was just borrowing it.'' Magistrate Edward King fined Cox, who has a string of similar convictions, $150 and gave him a three-month prison term suspended for two years.

The man was stretchered off the Horizon after she berthed at Dockyard and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He was transferred back to the vessel after treatment.

KEMH DECISION LOOMS HOS KEMH decision looms The appointment of a programme manager for the surgical department of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is expected to be announced by the end of the month.

The post had to be re-advertised after an expatriate who had only been working at the hospital for a few months was selected for the top job.

That decision prompted nursing staff to threaten strike action unless the post was re-advertised.

Yesterday a hospital spokesman said candidates were interviewed last week and will be told who has got the job by the end of this month.

The 46-year-old man said he was arguing with a man in the Mid-Ocean Club parking lot on Monday when the man punched him in the face.

The victim ran away and contacted the Police.

CASH TAKEN FROM CAR CRM Cash taken from car A motorist had an undisclosed amount of cash stolen from an unattended vehicle parked on Par-la-Ville Road.

It is believed the culprit broke off an aerial in order to commit the offence between 12.45 and 8 p.m. on Sunday.
