`Something new all the time'
Lane right off Front Street is preparing for the busiest time of its year.
Because its clientele is largely Bermuda residents, and because autumn is fast approaching, Gillian Motyer who runs the shop knows that the drop in temperatures in Bermuda means warmer clothing will be needed and ladies from 15 to 50 years of age will be heading to a shop that not only has a full, fresh stock of clothes, but a stock that reflects the latest fashion trends.
The Canadian firm Cotton Ginny is renowned for its quiet, firm fashion statements -- which seem to have caught the Bermuda style and taste.
Gillian stresses the local shop is not a franchise. "We have the right to use the label and sell the merchandise. There is something new all the time'' says Gillian "and that's primarily because we order in smaller quantities, but regularly.'' Sweaters, knits and fleeced sweatpants and shirts, are all examples of the winter stock with T-shirts and light dresses featuring in the summer months.
Gillian doesn't have to bear all the responsibility on her own shoulders. Her mother, Jean, and sister Mrs. Judy Masters are both shareholders and directors of this thriving little shop that seems to draw the discriminating shopper at all times of the year.
