Breaking News: Woman pleads guilty to injuring teen while drunk driving
A woman who left a teenager seriously injured when she knocked him off his bike while driving drunk pleaded guilty this morning.
Angela Ambrosini, 37, from Smith’s, admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Shakir Amory by driving her car while impaired.
Shakir, a CedarBridge Academy student, was 16-years-old at the time of the collision on South Road, Devonshire, late on March 6.
He suffered head injuries, multiple fractures and internal injuries and spent four months in hospital in Bermuda and the US.
Ambrosini denied a further charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, and Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves ordered that to lie on file.
Her trial was set to begin today, and the jury pool was waiting in court when she entered her pleas.
The judge bailed Ambrosini until December 1 when she will return to court for a sentencing date to be set. In the meantime, he ordered a pre-sentence report and ordered that she surrender her travel documents.
Prosecutor Nicole Smith did not detail the circumstances of the crash in court, but will do so during the sentencing hearing.
