Despite recent pleas for drivers to slow down and focus on road safety, Police attended another 20 road traffic collisions over the weekend.Thirteen of the accidents were damage-only incidents while seven resulted in injury and three people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Despite recent pleas for drivers to slow down and focus on road safety, Police attended another 20 road traffic collisions over the weekend.

Thirteen of the accidents were damage-only incidents while seven resulted in injury and three people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

There were also 14 incidents of breaking and entering over the weekend.

Police are investigating these incidents.

Whitney Institute homecoming

Whitney Institute, now in its 122nd year, will be holding its bi-annual Homecoming weekend at the school from June 9 to 12.

Principal Freddie Evans said yesterday that local artist Sharon Wilson and others will be inducted into the school?s Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 9.

On Friday, June 10, a family fun day will take place at the school from 2 to 8.30 p.m. which will include a student/teacher basketball game, he added.

On Saturday, June 11, a gospel concert will take place at the school, while on Sunday, a special church service will be held in the Outerbridge Hall, which members of the public are invited to attend.

Other well-known Bermudians to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year include Nelson Bascome, Charlie Marshall, Beverley Pitt, Pastor Terrence Stovell and Chanel Outerbridge.

Past inductees include Shaun Goater and Clay Smith.

Mr. Evans said the Hall of Fame demonstrates to pupils how far education will take them in life.

Weekend arrest

Police arrested a 20-year-old Warwick man on Saturday night in Southampton after a brief pursuit.

Police were on patrol at the junction of Camp Hill Road and Spice Hill Road in Southampton at about 11.20 p.m. following reports of weapons being carried by young men on motorcycles in the area.

They observed the 20-year-old on an auxiliary cycle travelling on Camp Hill Road at a high speed.

Officers pursued the bike and the man was arrested for a number outstanding warrants. He was taken to the Hamilton Police Station and detained.

Break-ins continue

Police are investigating a breaking and entering incident which happened on Tee Street, some time between April 30 and May 28.

The culprit reportedly stole a Dell 20-inch flat screen LCD television.

The incident was reported to Police on Sunday.

Electronics, jewellery and money were stolen from a Peach Tree Lane, Sandys, residence on Monday.

The homeowner told Police someone gained entry to her house sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A Sony digital camera, Panasonic VCR, DVD player and Nintendo Game Cube were taken.

The thief also made off with several items of jewellery and an unknown amount of foreign currency.

Police are investigating.

Two guest properties were also broken into on Monday.

A thief stole $120 from a visitor?s room at a Hamilton guest property while the individual was out.

Another visitor had a Cannon E6 digital camera stolen from his room at a Paget guest property. Police are investigating the thefts.
