The Ambassadors of Song exhibition will celebrate the works of artists who performed from the end of the First World War until the departed in the mid-1960s.

The exhibition is of mixed media and it will showcase musicians like Sydney Bean, George Rogers, the Talbot Brothers, Hubert Smith and the Coral Islanders, Kingsley Swan, the Travellers, Celeste Robinson, Stan Seymour, Lance Hayward, Al Harris, the Esso Steel Band, Erskine Zuill, the Strollers and the Four Deuces.

?These individuals and groups were responsible for enticing tourists to return to Bermuda?s shores, entertaining locals and creating a vibrant music scene in the Island?s hotels and clubs,? said Masterworks director Tom Butterfield.

?Many composed their own songs and others borrowed from the sounds of calypso, jazz and folk to create a unique Bermuda sound. The musicians featured used their raw talent and abilities to become Bermuda?s Ambassadors of Song.?

The exhibition opens on March 31 at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in the Botanical Gardens.

?It is a tribute to local musicians who have made their mark performing in Bermuda and overseas from the end of World War I to the last departure of the in 1966,? Mr. Butterfield added.

?A period argued as the most energetic in Bermuda?s musical history.?

The display will feature their musical instruments, record album covers, video footage of the musicians performing juxtaposed with a selection of art from Masterwork?s collection,? he added.

?Also available for purchase will be a compilation CD of selected songs.
