Teenager caught with knife at school

A teenager who admitted taking a knife to school was sentenced to two years’ probation.

Malachi Fox, 18, also pleaded guilty to handling $800 worth of stolen goods at Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard Fox was at the Berkeley Institute on June 1, 2018 when he was caught with a 6½-inch kitchen knife on him.

Items were also found at Fox’s home in Sandys last year that matched those taken in a theft.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe ordered Fox to avoid alcohol and illicit substances and submit to random drug testing.

He was also told to stick to a 9pm to 6am curfew for the first six months of the probation order and any other curfew restrictions imposed afterwards by the Department of Court Services.

Mr Wolffe said Fox must also be assessed for, and take part in, any counselling programmes deemed ordered by Court Services and appear at probation reviews as required.
