Ladies place second in Jamaica
the 21st annual Kitty Michael International golf tournament wound up in Jamaica on the weekend.
Played at the Breezes Golf and Country Club in Runaway Bay, the event, contested by eight teams from the Caribbean and US, saw hosts Jamaica score convincing victories in both divisions.
Bermuda (644) trailed Jamaica (626) by 18 shots in net at the end of the 54-hole tournament, but in turn beat third-placed Puerto Rico (648) by four strokes.
In gross, Jamaica carded 730 -- 31 better than runners-up South East Florida (761). Bermuda took third on 776.
Among the Bermuda players to impress was Claudette Gottsegen who took low net honours on the second day with a 66 and Judy Kiston won a closest to the pin award on the same day.
Gottsegen twice led Bermuda in the daily net category, shooting a 70 on the final day, and in the second round also had the Island's best gross score of 82.
Diana Diel fired the low gross score for Bermuda in the first and third rounds, 82 and 85.

MALLORY TOP SEED IN OPEN TEN Mallory top seed in Open The Heineken Open tennis tournament begins at the Tennis Stadium in Pembroke today.
Seeded number one is Ricky Mallory, while the man who beat him in last year's mens final, his Davis Cup team-mate Michael Way, is seeded two.
Top players missing from the draw are Dean Mello, who is off the Island, James Collieson, at college in the US, and Gregg Frigerio, who feels he has not trained enough to be in top shape for the tournament.
Last year's ladies champion Elizabeth Osborne will not be defending her title -- she is concentrating on training for a hockey tour.
In her absence, Jill Finnegan has been seeded one, while last year's losing finalist Gill Butterfield is ranked two.
The tournament, which is run by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association, offers 10 events in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, including three events for senior players.
Entries are up this year in all events, bar open men's singles and open men's doubles.

HOCKEY GIRLS HEAD WEST HOC Hockey girls head west Young hockey players from Bermuda will fly to Vancouver in July for an eight-day tour of Canada.
The Island squad, made up of players from different schools and clubs aim to enhance their skills and prepare themselves for future international competition.
The girls will undergo a rigorous schedule in Canada, training between 7.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. each day and playing two games per evening.
