Final day slip proves costly for Bromby
Peter Bromby slipped down the Etchells rankings on the –final day of the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week, finishing in third place overall.The Olympic hopeful had been leading going into the–final day but got off to a poor start, losing his top batten which affected his upwind performance.Jason Owen, from the UK, finished in first place with 21 points.Will Thompson, from Bermuda, also finished on 21 points but Owen had more wins so claimed top spot.Bromby finished up on 22 points.“We didn’t have a great day, but the racing was challenging all week, and Jason did a great job,” his crew Lee White said.In the J24 class, Trevor Boyce was first overall with 17 points, Roger Morris, from the UK, was second with 25 points, Pete Ramsdale was third with 28 points and Sean McDermott, from Canada, was fourth with 30 points.Patrick Cooper won the IOD B Series with seven points, Jeremy Preston, of the USA, was second with 18 points and Dan Faria was third with 19 points.In the overall competition the Vrengen Gold Cup Faria won with 28.8 points, Preston was second with 36 points and Cooper was third with 39 points.The Lasers had finished on Thursday with Rockal Evans –repeating his win of last year, and the J105s finished on Monday with Chuck Millican in first place.
