the men's hockey league with a 5-0 thrashing of Polecats on the weekend.

Daniel Bordage opened the scoring for Wasps before further goals from Paul Farrington, Scott DeCosta and Simons Farrington followed. The young Tyler Smith added the fifth from the penalty spot late in the second half.

In the other match Rebels slumped to their third defeat in a row on Sunday when a strong Upstarts team claimed their first victory of the season by a 3-2 margin.

Neil Carrol slotted in a rebound to put Upstarts ahead after five minutes.

Rebels had not recovered from the first goal before Andrew Yoakley added a second with a blast from just inside the circle. Stephen Troake replied with a goal for Rebels to make it 2-1 and was unfortunate not to add a second during a well-worked short corner just before the end of the half.

In the second half, Upstarts played controlled hockey as Rebels pushed forward in search of the equaliser. Carrol and Yoakley were dominant in midfield and sustained pressure resulted in a Michael Thompson goal after a flurry of rebounds.

Kirk Edmunds replied for Rebels with a controversial short corner goal in the dying minutes but it was too little too late as Upstarts coasted to a deserved win.

The second half of the season resumes on January 10 with morning games. Rebels take on Polecats at 10.30 a.m. and Chameleons play Upstarts at noon.
