Island pair in finals

A pair of Bermudians will today contest finals at the Canadian Junior Championships, with Fraser Hunt and Laura Robinson both having shots at bringing home the gold.

Hunt earned a berth in the boys' 15-16 division match play final against either Nick Laflech or Nick Yawney after a solid four and three triumph over Ontario native Joshua Dean in yesterday's semi-final at Royal Woodbine Country Club.

The young Bermudian had complete control of his game from tee to green, a fact emphasised by an even par performance up to the 15th hole. The highlight of the day saw Hunt land a 30-yard pitch in the cup for an eagle at the par five ninth.

Going even better was Robinson, who after struggling through the earlier rounds, finally kicked into gear as she cruised past Ottawa's Ashley Bickerton eight and six to set up a showdown with Jaclyn Sanders in the final.

Robinson holed out for birdie on the 12th to put pay to any aspirations Bickerton had of making it through.

Coach Eric Robinson noted that his daughter Laura and Hunt would again have to be at the top of their games today if they were to be victorious.

"It's match play, so the thing is that you have to keep hanging in,'' said Robinson. "There's a lot of strategy involved in match play where you've got to watch what your opponent's doing and try to counteract that.'' servative.'' Meanwhile, falling at the second to last hurdle was Andy Boyce, who lost two down to Pierre-Oliver Beaudry of Quebec.

Boyce entered the final hole one down and in trying to go for the green in two at the par five, lost his ball in the water, washing away all hopes of victory.
