An islandwide manhunt continues 36-year-old Shane Todd, a prisoner at large who failed to return to the Prison Farm at the designated time.The inmate who was on the work release programme has been missing since last Friday. He is described as brown skinned, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds.A police spokesman said: “He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, blue pants and white high-top sneakers.”Acting Chief Inspector Andy Morgan of the Public Protection Department “advises members of the public who may see Mr Todd to contact the main police number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity”.That also applies to anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Shane Todd. Police also issued a reminder to the public that “harbouring a fugitive is an offence punishable under the law”.Meanwhile, Commissioner of Corrections Edward Lamb stressed: “The inmate did not escape our custody — he was released by us to participate in employment outside the Prison Farm, a daily occurrence for many inmates at the facility.“Using the term ‘escape’ is grossly inaccurate and very misleading,” said Mr Lamb. “We have stringent guidelines and rules in place for inmates on Work Release, with which inmates must comply or risk being removed from the privilege of Work Release if they fail to do so,” he said.Mr Lamb noted that prison officials “conduct regular and random spot checks of work sites to monitor inmates on Work Release”.“We also liaise closely with their employers to ensure compliance with our rules and regulations.”The Commissioner added: “This is the first time in a very long time that an inmate has failed to return to the Prison Farm while on Work Release, which indicates the success of this programme and validates our selection of inmates for this programme.”Mr Lamb also said prison authorities are “currently working with the police and the inmate’s family to locate him”.“We have every confidence that he will returned to custody,” he said.And he urged the inmate “to do the right thing and turn himself in immediately”.Mr Todd is understood to be serving time for drug offences and is reportedly considered to be a low risk prisoner in terms of posing a danger to the public.
