How a couch potato finally found her feet

When the Cardiac Care programme handed out pedometers to celebrate the February Heart Awareness Month, Royal Gazette Lifestyle?s reporter Jessie Moniz became the recipient of one. Myrian Balitian-Dill of the Cardiac Care programme recently advised people to incorporate moderate exercise into their lifestyle by taking at least 10,000 steps per day.

A small pedometer attached to the waistband of your pants can help you figure out how many steps you take per day.

The reporter found that the pedometer really does encourage walking, simply because it?s fun to see the numbers mount up. The normally couch-potato-bound reporter, egged on by the pedometer, decided to walk to a cardiac care interview, from Par-la-ville Road to Kings Street. The round trip racked up about 4,000 steps. So it stands to reason that two round trips across Hamilton, plus your daily activity should meet the daily step quota. The reporter also found that to get an impressive array of stepping points outside of your exercise routine, it is helpful to place your cycle keys in some obscure place in your house, then forget where they are.

The reporter also found that not only do pedometers encourage you to walk further, they also help your VIP rating. The pedometer looks like the latest pager. When people see you stopping to check it every 20 steps or so they must assume that you are a very in demand person.

Your relatives suddenly love you more when you wear a pedometer. They all want to butter you up so they can borrow it ?just for a little while? so they can also walk further and look cool.
