Play ball! YAO starts again

THE Youth Athletic Organisation (YAO) Baseball League, sponsored by the Argus Group since 1998, is once again in full swing with over 400 children taking part this season.

The league has been running in Bermuda for 26 years (12 years as YAO Baseball) and is a charter member of Little League Baseball Incorporated. The YAO Baseball League consists of 28 teams playing in four leagues. It provides baseball programmes for youths and young adults ages five to 16. Games take place each Saturday at the playing fields at Southside, St. David's.

Cindy Campbell, Executive Vice President of the Argus Group and a lifelong baseball fan, met with players last weekend and threw out the opening ball of the season.

She said: "I was honoured to be asked to participate in the first game of the season. It was wonderful to see so many children taking part in this great sport and having fun. One of our core goals at Argus is to help the people of Bermuda make healthier lifestyle choices. The children here today are learning that exercise can be both enjoyable and good for them. We hope that this message will stay with them throughout their lives."

David Bedard, President of the YAO Baseball League, explained the benefits that children gain from participating in the league: "Baseball is a positive, team-oriented activity that challenges young people both mentally and physically. The sport teaches children important life skills such as perseverance, patience and cooperation while also keeping them fit and healthy. I would like to express my thanks to the Argus Group for their continued support of the league and wish all the teams well in the coming season."

Spectators are welcome to attend all games every Saturday.
