Hamilton Parish man denies break-in spree

A 21-year-old from Hamilton Parish has been charged with a series of guest house and hotel break-ins.

Jeron Marcus Douglas has denied a string of charges relating to alleged burglaries, thefts and two attempts to escape from custody on the same day.

He has been charged with breaking into the Brightside Guest House, on North Shore Road, Flatts Village, on June 11 and stealing a bag and $320 of currency and a British passport. It is also alleged he went equipped with a bladed article.

It was also said in court that he had broken into the guest house with an imitation firearm.

Douglas, of My Lord's Bay Lane, is also said to have entered a number of rooms at the Pink Beach Club on South Road, Smith's, on June 30 and July 1 and stole various items and cash, and also to have broken into a home in Hamilton Parish and taken a money pouch.

The court was told that on two occasions on July 6 Douglas is alleged to have attempted to escape from lawful custody.

Douglas, who was represented by lawyer Elizabeth Christopher, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Douglas be kept in custody until July 19.

Cannabis found on visitor from America

A visitor from the Bronx in New York City was caught with 5.34 grams of cannabis, with a street value of around $500, after he had disembarked from a flight at Bermuda International Airport.

Mark Omar Sabarese, of 133rd Street, arrived in Bermuda on July 6 on a flight from New York. Appearing in court Sabarese, 39, pleaded guilty to attempting to import cannabis onto the Island. He was fined $1,500 or three months imprisonment in default.

Impaired driver fined, banned from roads

A St. George's man who rode his motorcycle while impaired by alcohol was stopped by Police who noticed he was riding in the dark without lights illuminated along Kindley Field Road, St. George's.

He has been fined a total of $2,450 and disqualified from driving any vehicle for 12 months after admitting a number of traffic offences.

Owain-Johnston Barnes, 24, of St. David's Road, told police he had only had one drink on the evening of May 13 when he was stopped. When he gave a breath test he was found to have 120 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg. Appearing in plea court Barnes pleaded guilty to the charge of impaired driving and was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.

He also pleaded guilty to having no third party insurance and was fined a further $1,000. For having an unlicensed cycle Barnes was fined $250, for not having his helmet fastened he was fined a further $100 and for failing to notify TCD of a change of ownership details for the bike he was fined a further $100.

Teen denies breaking into club's restaurant

Allegations of breaking into the Caribbean Delight Restaurant at the Southampton Rangers Club and stealing $425 of food and drink and causing $400 of damage to a door have been denied by a Warwick man.

Devonne Hodgson, 19, has been bailed for a trial on October 17 after entering not guilty pleas in Magistrates' Court where he was accused of entering the restaurant as a trespasser on June 29 and stealing a quantity of goods and also causing damage to a door. Hodgson, of Eastdale Lane, was released on a $2,000 bail and placed under curfew to remain at his home address and to report daily to Hamilton Police Station.

His trail has been set for October 17.
