Fine for violently resisting arrest

A 29-year-old man arrested for cursing at police told Magistrates’ Court he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.Officers had to use Captor spray on Lemuel Weeks, who became aggressive after being refused entry to a Front Street nightclub early Saturday morning.Police on patrol responded to a man shouting outside the club at 2.45am.The man then told them: “F**k all of you. You guys are f***ing a******s.”The man and the arresting officer fell to the ground during the struggle to handcuff him, at which point he was pepper-sprayed.Weeks told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “I was really drunk that night, and I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I should never have said what I said.”Mr Warner fined him $1,000 for the use of offensive words, plus $1,000 for violently resisting arrest.
