Intruder fined $400 for damage

Santucci told the court he went to Quinton Smith's Pembroke residence on January 20. He said he was seeking the help of his former girlfriend, with whom he said he was still on good terms.

The court heard that Santucci entered Smith's bedroom where a scuffle ensued.

Santucci said he tried to push Smith aside and that he was "desperate at the time''.

During the altercation Santucci also caused $60 worth of damage to three glass louvres.

Police later found Santucci on Front Street with the three-foot stick.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Santucci $100 for each offence and ordered him to pay the total by February 6 or spend 40 days in prison.

THUMBS-UP FOR MICRO-BREWERY LIQ Thumbs-up for micro-brewery The Liquor License Applications board yesterday granted a provisional class `A' licence and a restaurant licence for 12 months to the Atlantic Brewery Company in Dockyard.

Should final approval be granted, customers visiting the new restaurant will be able to see beer fermenting in 10 gallon kegs.

Construction is expected to start on the micro-brewery and restaurant's premises soon.

Lawyer Mr. Kim White made the application on behalf of the Atlantic Brewery Company.

NEWSPAPER THIEF FINED $50 CTS Newspaper thief fined $50 A 32-year-old Hamilton Parish man was yesterday fined $50 in Magistrates' Court after he admitted stealing 20 Royal Gazette newspapers on Saturday.

Winston Charles Spencer, of Crawl Hill, took the papers, worth $11, from the front of Clarendon Pharmacy on Bermudiana Road.

Spencer was arrested peddling the newspapers in front of the Ambassadors Club on Reid Street after it was confirmed he was not authorised to sell them. When confronted by Police, the man produced several unsold papers and a small amount of cash pocketed from the papers already sold.

Spencer, of Crawl Hill, has a number of similar previous convictions, Police prosecutor.

His most recent theft conviction was in May, 1993 when he was sentenced to perform 75 hours of community service for theft of liquor.

As well as the fine for Saturday's offence, the man owes $300 from an October, 1994 fine.

Spencer was given until the end of February to pay both fines or serve a 30-day sentence.
