Organisers of May 24 half marathon come in for praise from Senators
The Upper House yesterday sent congratulations to the organisers of the Heritage Day half marathon.
Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP) asked that congratulations be sent to fellow UBP senator Gerald Simons who she said had bettered his previous best time over the course.
PLP Senator Neletha Butterfield asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Alfred Hinson who was a contractor and a long serving member of the St. Paul AME church.
Sen. Butterfield asked that congratulations be sent to United Productions for their recent play "Reality Street'', which she said highlighted what was really going on with Bermuda's youth.
She also asked that congratulations be sent to Ms Patricia Pogson and Mr.
Darryl Simons who were voted Outstanding Young Persons by the Bermuda Junior Chamber of Commerce.
And she sent congratulations to the Warwick preschool for its carnival held in honour of Heritage Day, the Dellwood Primary school for its observance of Sir Stanley Burgess day on May 23 and the St. Anne's Parish Church for their women's day service on May 21.
Sen. Larry Scott (UBP) asked that congratulations be sent to Ms Maria Conroy Haydon who came back to win the women's open division of the Marathon Derby after dehydration prevented her from finishing the race last year.
He also congratulated Mr. Kavin Smith who set a "blistering pace'' to win the men's open division, and MacInnis Lobby Jr. who won the cycle race while his father ran in the road race.
Sen. Scott aslo congratulated Sen. Simons' son Duncan who won the Junior division of the Heritage cycle race.
Sen. Terry Lister asked that congratulations be sent to the Bermuda Electric Company for its open house on May 20-21.
He said it was a good example of the company's "user-friendly'' approach to the public it serves.
Sen. Lister also sent congratulations to Ms Judith Hall Bean who was appointed director of Personnel Services and Mr. Kim Astwood who replaces Mr. Malcolm Butterfield as the Registrar of Companies.
Sen. Lister lauded Johnson and Higgins staff for their youth-directed community service activities done to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
Government Senate leader Sen. Gerald Simons asked that congratulations be sent to Mr. Dennis Tucker and Mr. Eugene Bean who were named to the board of directors of the Bank of Bermuda.
