Man charged with sexual assault
St. George's woman over the weekend and was remanded in custody.
The man, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to assaulting the woman and illegally entering her house on June 7.
He was also charged with serious sexual assault of the woman on June 13, detaining her against her will, and stalking her between June 8 and 13.
The man will be tried in Supreme Court, and was not required to enter a plea for the more serious charges. He cannot be named for legal reasons.
Crown Counsel Charlene Scott objected to bail.
THEFT PUTS BERMUDA WEDDING IN JEOPARDY CTS Theft puts Bermuda wedding in jeopardy A foreign worker who stole from his employers asked to remain in Bermuda until after his wedding yesterday.
Ian Bruce Hallan, a foreign worker employed at the MarketPlace on Church Street in Pembroke, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft in Magistrates' Court. Police prosecutor Sgt. Wilbert McLean said Hallan had been suspected of stealing for several weeks.
A MarketPlace employee saw Hallan slipping groceries down the front of his trousers on two separate occasions.
When Hallan left the MarketPlace after work on June 12, Police were waiting for him in the parking lot.
He was arrested and admitted stealing $13.54 worth of groceries on June 10 and $19.11 worth of groceries on June 12.
Yesterday in court, Hallan apologised for his behaviour and said he assumed his work permit would be revoked.
But he asked Mr. Francis permission to stay on Island until after his wedding later this month. Mr. Francis fined him $200 and told him to speak with Immigration officials.
MAM, 26, THREATENS TO SHOOT POLICEMAN CTS Man, 26, threatens to shoot Policeman A 26-year-old man who threatened to shoot a Police officer was dragged out of Magistrates' Court yelling and cursing yesterday afternoon. Jamal Manders was detained at St. Brendan's indefinitely.
Manders had been in Police custody after assaulting Sgt. Phil Taylor earlier this year.
He had apparently broken a three-year probationary term for using offensive language.
The courts were waiting for the results of psychiatric evaluations before sentencing Manders, whose address was not given in court.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis told Manders that psychiatrist Vanessa Crawford recommended he be detained at St. Brendan's "for his own safety and the safety of others''.
But Manders told Mr. Francis: "Your Honour, are you looking for a gunfight? "Someone's gonna get shot ... you want a police officer to get shot? `Cause I'll get the guns,'' he added. Manders began cursing, and Mr. Francis demanded he be removed from the courtroom and sent to St. Brendan's.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday, Ameer Shakir, 23, and Khalid Omar Shakir, 18, pleaded guilty to obstructing Police and Nashid Ali Shakir, 21, pleaded guilty to using offensive words.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Wilbert McLean said Police approached a gathering of youths on Angle Street around 12.20 a.m. on May 30 and discovered a manila twist containing cannabis on the ground.
When officers attempted to search Ameer and Khalid Shakir, they both refused and hit the officers' hands away saying: "You're not searching me''.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined each of the Shakirs, of Cedar Avenue, $150 for the charges.
