Roy surges ahead after sizzling 66 at Mid Ocean

Scott Roy fired a second round five-under 66 at Mid Ocean Club to take a five-shot lead at the half-way stage of the individual Goodwill Tournament.

The Bermuda professional, who is representing West Shore Country Club from Pennsylvania this week, leads Riddell's Bay professional Brian Morris in the pro stableford event, with Alpine Country Club professional Ed Kirby close behind.

Roy scored 23 stableford points yesterday, for the second successive round, and has a total of 46 at the half way stage. Morris is now five points back after he scored just 15 yesterday at Mid Ocean, while Kirby finished with 17 points and has 40 from his two rounds.

Played over four courses, Mid Ocean Club, Belmont Hills, Tucker's Point and Port Royal, the Goodwill will take a rest day today when the professionals will go head to head at Riddell's Bay in a one round shoot-out.

When they resume tomorrow the battle in the senior professional division will be even tighter than the junior competition where just three points separates the top four golfers.

Woodland CG professional Ted Griffin, and Adam Brown, the director of golf at The National Golf Club from Canada, are tied at the top on 36 points after similar rounds at Belmont Hills. Brown, the overnight leader, scored 15 points, while Griffin bagged 16.

Meanwhile, Bedrock professional Joe Carr, a long-time visitor to the Island, is just a point further back after a good round at Mid Ocean, and Bob Guisti lies fourth on 33 points.

Susan Bond has opened up a six-point lead over Judithann Astwood-Outerbridge in the ladies' division, and with both playing on the same course rotation, the division promises to go down to the wire.

In the Junior Division gross team event, Riddell's Bay and Wannamoisett CC 'A' are tied at the top on 13-under 128 for the two days.

Wannamoisett A are led by professional Troy Pare with team-mates Ben Tuthill, Mike Huber and Alan Modest.
