Young sailors on the crest of a wave

Bermuda's young sailors were honoured at the National Youth Sailing Championships awards presentation last night at Barr's Bay Park.

Trophies for the class winners of the 420, Laser and Optimist classes were presented for the event, which took place earlier this month.

The ceremony was hosted by sponsors, the Bank of Butterfield, and Eddie Belfon, head of retail banking, addressed the sailors before handing over to Laser sailor Zander Kirkland who congratulated the winners.

The championships acted as the qualifier for the Youth World Championships in Portugal next year.

Gareth Williams and James Doughty came in first in the 420 fleet, with Rene Black and Katrina Williams the first females in seventh place. The Optimists qualifier is held in December.
