Youngster hurt in accident

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said the accident occurred around 4.15 p.m. Tuesday outside the Heron Bay School on Middle Road in Southampton.

A motorcycle ridden by a 27-year-old Paget man was approaching the cross-walk from the east when the little girl stepped onto the crossing.

The child was knocked to the ground and despite striking her head, remained conscious while her mother took her to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. James Barnett said the little girl also sustained abrasions.

The cycle rider received cuts and abrasions, but declined medical assistance.

Slippery road conditions led to an accident where a 49-year-old American visitor and her daughter careened over an eight foot wall.

Mrs. James Barnett said the visitor was attempting to turn right, at the junction of Cobb's Hill and South Roads in Warwick, when she lost control of the bike.

The bike skidded on the damp road, mounted the grass verge and careened over an eight foot embankment onto private property.

Mrs. James Barnett said the woman's daughter suffered a fractured right ankle and the cycle was extensively damaged.

And wet road surfaces caused a 39-year-old Paget man to loose control of his cycle and collide with a utility pole.

Mrs. James Barnett said the mishap took place on Verdmont Road in Smith's around 4.48 p.m. on Tuesday.

The rider was rounding a sharp right hand bend on Verdmont Road when he lost control of his cycle on the wet road surface, colliding with a utility pole.

The man was not seriously injured.

Police are also investigating two daytime break-ins which took place in the West End.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said a someone broke into a home on Lighthouse Road, Southampton on Tuesday.

The culprit stole food from the freezer, an electric drill, a Dremel drill, a hand saw and a Gucci watch.

Mrs. James Barnett said a neighbour, who spotted a suspicious person near the house around 10 a.m., provided Police with a description.

And a home on East Shore Lane in Sandys was also broken into on Tuesday.

Mrs. James Barnett said when the owner's son returned home around 4.30 p.m., he found his bedroom door closed and the dog inside.

The bedroom had been searched and a wallet containing cash had been stolen.
