Canaries suffer first loss
Sunday when they beat previously unbeaten Canaries 3-2 at Nationals.
Bluebirds applied the early pressure and scored through Sarah Maltby, forcing Canaries to play an unfamiliar catch-up game. They eventually equalised through Emma Garon who fired home from just inside the `D'.
But in the second half it was Bluebirds who again applied the pressure, scoring twice more through Ali Anson and Colette Doughty while Canaries notched a second goal to keep it close.
Despite their first defeat of the season, Canaries still lead the standings on goal difference over Bluebirds and Cardinals who edged Swifts 1-0 on Saturday.
Cardinals took an early lead which they maintained until the final whistle.
Only an outstanding display by Swifts goalkeeper Amie Dawson prevented Cardinals from increasing that lead.
Three B League matches were played on the weekend with leaders Canaries drawing 1-1 with Orioles in a make-up game on Saturday before beating Bluebirds 1-0 on Sunday to remain unbeaten in five matches and open a three point lead over Orioles.
Orioles dominated almost the entire game against Canaries with the goals coming in the second half through Georgina Adlam for Orioles and Carol Ferris for Canaries. Goalkeepers Tish Parfitt and Clare Desmond both had outstanding matches.
Ali Cameron scored a late goal from a deflection to give Canaries a 1-0 win over Bluebirds.
Swifts and Cardinals produced a rather dull midfield battle for much of the first half in their match before a Swifts substitution stepped up their attacking play.
Though Swifts were unable to convert the first few good chances they created, they did manage to score the game's only goal early in the second half when Christanthi Bartley found the net. Swifts then hung on for their first league win of the season.
